Viru Street (Viru tänav)

Viru street is “pedestrian only” and provides one of the primary entryways into Old Town. It is guarded by two nearly identical towers. These served important roles during medieval times as they stood sentry protecting Viru Gate, a main point of entry through the defensive wall. The gate was torn down in the late 1800s to allow for installation of a horse-drawn tram system.
