Tallinn Trams (Tallinna trammid)

Tallinn’s public transportation system consists of a mix of motorbuses, trolleybuses and trams. The tram network first became operational in the late 1880s when power was provided by equine. Steam-powered trams became the norm around World War I. This was replaced shortly thereafter by electricity.

The track network expanded over the years to reach its current length of approximately 12 miles (20km) arranged roughly in an “X” pattern.

Starting in the mid-70s, tram cars were sourced from the Prague firm ĈKD. Various versions of the Tatra have been used for much of the last 50 years. A new generation of tram car, manufactured by the Spanish firm CAF, was first introduced in 2015.
